Parasite control
We treat all our patients as individuals, and since fleas and ticks are relatively rare in central London, we only treat them when we find them. It is important to control intestinal roundworms for both pet and human health reasons, so we recommend adult cats and dogs are treated every 3-6 months (depending on their feeding, hunting or scavenging habits). Puppies and kittens should be treated monthly up until 6 months of age.
Lungworm in dogs is a relative newcomer on the scene. Carried by foxes and spread by slugs and snails, it is a potential killer and can be difficult to identify before your dog becomes very ill. We recommend an easy-to-apply monthly preventative treatment in the form of drops on the back of the neck. We are monitoring the prevalence of the disease in London and the south east and will adjust our recommendations accordingly. Fox mange (sarcoptic mange or scabies) is always around in London – we treat it as and when we find or suspect it.
