For the Pet Travel Scheme, Cats and dogs must have:
 

• i) microchip identification

• ii) rabies vaccination

• iii) had a blood test taken AT LEAST 6 MONTHS BEFORE THE DATE OF ENTRY INTO THE UK to show that they have sufficient antibodies against the rabies virus
  

• iv) a PETS Re-entry certificate confirming all the above
  

• v) a certificate of parasite treatment given by a vet between 24 and 48 hours before the departure time for the UK.
  

• vi) a declaration signed by the owner stating that the pet has not been outside of the qualifying countries in the 6 months preceding the date of UK entry. It seems all a bit long winded and daunting the first time around, but it does then allow easy travel in and out of the UK from then on. Ask us for more details - we'd be happy to help.

to contact DEFRA, the travel company (eg British Airways) and the embassy of the destination country at least 2 months before travel, to leave plenty of time for the formalities.
